Celebrate spring with fun and fellowship at the Allen Center’s Happy Hour on May 16, 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Meet and greet our seniors, neighbors and co-workers while sharing door prizes, snacks, music and sing-alongs. Reservations required, donation $3.

Want to lose weight, firm up, have more energy and feel better? The Spring Fitness Contest runs through May 31. Equipment at John Booth includes a treadmill, stationary bicycle and Cardioglide, all at the senior center. Prizes will be awarded for the most time logged on the equipment and in Laura’s Easy Cardio and Balance and Wellness Classes. Weighing-in is optional and will not be made public. All exercise must be done at the center in order to be counted for the contest.

May 2: Members Meeting. The John Booth Council has requested Councilmen D’Adamo and Kraft and Mr. Don Arnold of the Highlandtown Association come to talk about concerns of our members at 1:30 p.m. Free hot dogs at 12:30 p.m. Free ice cream after the concern meeting. Members of the community are invited.

Thursday, May 3: Video exercise at 9:30 a.m.; aerobics at 10:30, lunch at 11:30. The 12:30 p.m. movie is “The Last King of Scotland,” featuring Forrest Whitaker’s Oscar-winning performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin.
Friday, May 4: Bingo starts at 1 p.m.
Monday, May 7: Exercise class at 9:30 a.m.; massage appointments begin at 10 a.m. and Eating Together at 11:30.
Tuesday, May 8: The first of a three-week course on gang violence will be held 10-11 a.m. Computer classes are held noon-3 p.m., lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and yoga classes are held from 4:45 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday May 9: The Health and Fitness discussion begins at 10 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30.
Hatton members can sign up now for lunch and a visit by Mayor Sheila Dixon on Monday, May 14. Plan to attend and give her a warm welcome.

To honor the environmental work of Rachel Carson and in commemoration of her 100th birthday, the Hatton Center book club’s next read is “Silent Spring,” the book that launched the environmental movement, which we’ll discuss on June 6 at noon.
Extra Help may assist and/or pay for the cost of premiums, deductibles, and co-pays associated with prescription drug coverage. May 4: Gloria Garrett will present her free-form dance and chair exercises at 11 a.m.
We will play bingo from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
At 3 p.m., the Children’s Hour will feature the changing landscape of spring in art.
