Grand opening: The Southeast Anchor Library, Eastern Avenue and Conkling Street, will officially open its doors Saturday, June 9, at 10 a.m. with speeches, a ribbon cutting and a performance by the Baltimore City College Choir. The festivities begin at 10 a.m. and segue right into the kickoff for the Enoch Pratt Free Library’s Summer Reading Program. The theme this year is “Reading Road Trip,” and encourages children and teens to “explore different places through reading,” according to Ellen Riordan, coordinator of children’s services for the Pratt. Children can win prizes for reading more books, and the top readers from each branch become eligible to win a pair of Baltimore Ravens tickets and an opportunity to meet cornerback Samari Rolle. Columbia Fest! The Columbia Festival of the Arts 20th Anniversary Celebration runs June 6-23, with live musical performances by the lakefront, a kinetic art parade, an art park, the group America, a presentation of the 80s musical, “True Colors,” magic shows and much more.
