It’s hard to resist the obvious puns, like dog days of summer, doggie paddle and going to the dogs.
But doggone it all, the Canton Dog Park turns five on Saturday, and considering it took dogged determination to get it there, the area is putting on the dog to celebrate.
So don’t whine.
On Saturday, June 30, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., CCA celebrates what organizers are calling “five years of off-leash fun at the corner of Toone and Clinton streets” with a barbecue and doggie pool party. All activities will be held rain or shine.
Cara (above) looks like she’s eagerly anticipating the Canton Dog Park’s fifth anniversary party.
There are, of course, the expected components of any summer festival — food (for humans, provided by the Roadkill Café, and for dogs, provided by Dogma), give-aways and prizes. A trainer will be on hand to answer questions, give demonstrations and provide advice.
And to keep the guests of honor (the four-legged variety) cool, there will be wading pools. Yes, wading pools, for dogs’ use only. Owners are being asked to bring towels to dry of their pets after dipping.
The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) will on hand to accept donations of gently used doggie items for the shelter (suggested items include blankets, towels, collars and leashes, food and toys — remember, too, that BARCS has pets including both cats and dogs. For information on specific needs, go to www.baltimoreanimalshelter.org, then to “How You Can Help” which lists items the shelter can use).
