Thanks to supporters of St. Stan’s church museum
Editor, The Guide:

In June 2007 we were notified by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals of their decision to uphold the ruling of the Circuit Court of Baltimore City in St. Stanislaus Kostka Polish/Slavic Church Museum v. the Franciscan Fathers, in favor of the Franciscan Fathers.
We appreciate all the support received from the many Polish and Slavic organizations as well as friends from our neighboring Greek and Italian communities who supported our efforts to preserve an important piece of national and local history. It is unfortunate that our Polish heritage, presence in the community, and numerous contributions over the past 120-plus years to the Fells Point and Baltimore communities have been disregarded.
For all of those who donated their prayers, and provided us with emotional and financial support, there are no words that adequately express our gratitude.
We especially want to acknowledge:
Edward B. Rybczynski, Esq., and M. Albert Figinski, Esq., a former judge, for their donations of legal expertise and tireless efforts;
Martha S. Cukor, Esq. and the legal staff of the Law Office of Edward B. Rybczynski for the important work they have done;
Prof. Ralph Rohner of The Catholic University, who provided research and brief-writing support;
Rev. Ivan Dornic of the Lemko Community for his desire to preserve our heritage, and for providing spiritual and financial guidance throughout this process;
The Lemko Community for their donation of the weekly use of their community room;
The Bingo Committee for their fantastic and relentless fundraising efforts and all of the players who made financial contributions;
Neighboring faith communities for their cooperation, concern and prayers;
The many business and civic organizations who provided support and embraced the idea of preserving an important icon of Baltimore’s early immigrant communities.
With sincere and heartfelt thanks,
The Board of Directors
St. Stanislaus Kostka Polish/Slavic Church Museum Inc.

Creating comic water ballet does a disservice to Tolstoy
Editor, The Guide:

To turn Leo Tolstoy’s monumental War and Peace into a water ballet called “Dogs and Fleas” is an insult to Baltimore. We already own the title as the “hairdo capital of the world” along with other dubious monikers. Also note that the Fluid Movement performers have been photographed in front of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church on Eastern Avenue – this is not a Russian venue.
I find the “art” of water ballet dubious – much like the excitement of a submarine race. However the concept of a dog park battle between squirrels and a canine contingent has charm. But to base the conflict on Napoleon’s invasion of Russia creates an ignorant understatement of world class proportion!
By the way, I question why nothing about this performance was listed in the Friends of Patterson Park website. I publish a neighborhood calendar and scour community bulletin boards for information. I checked the Patterson Park website again this morning and there was nothing about “War and Fleas.” Is this a deliberate boycott? History buffs need to know.
