Local church forms ties between Federal Hill and Cuba

Cuba. It’s a term that might bring up images of cigars and Fidel Castro. And for those whose memories stretch back far enough, a missile crisis.

Liquor Board moves to close Chuck’s Place

A bar within the sightlines of Patterson Park, neighborhood schools and an arts and entertainment attraction stands to lose its liquor license permanently for drug trafficking.
The Baltimore Board of Liquor License Commisssions handed down its judgment last week, against Chuck’s Place, a bar located in the 3100 block of Eastern Avenue. The decision? To close the bar based on findings made by both the liquor board and the Baltimore Police Department.

I have plenty of friends who live in Federal Hill and for some time I have been hearing them complain that the weekend drinking crowd was getting younger and rowdier. Parking was worse than ever and the streets were trash-strewn and dirty by Sunday.

A Canton girl filed a $50,000 lawsuit against the driver of a car that ran her down at S. East Ave. and Gough St. Her father filed a companion suit for $15,000. The 11-year-old girl was walking across East when she was hit by the car on November 24, 1957. The impact knocked her unconscious, and she was placed in a full body cast. She went back to school on Feb. 3.
