Feral Cats: The Maryland SPCA, Maryland Feline Society, Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, and Alley Cat Allies are developing free community outreach and humane education programs, and will offer low-cost spay/neuter clinics for outdoor stray and feral cats. The workshops will provide information on safe care for outdoor cats and on how to stop the cycle of breeding with Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). The workshop will address caring for outdoor cats and building inexpensive shelters, and other information. Computer 101: The South Baltimore Learning Center (SBLC), 28 E. Ostend Street, is enrolling adults for 6-week Basic Computer classes. Classes will begin on Tuesday, March 25. The course provides a basic introduction to the computer, the use of the internet and common computer programs. Singers! Jazz Combos! Baltimore’s Cab Calloway and Billie Holiday Vocal Jazz Competitions will be held at Artscape on Sunday, July 20. The competition is open to contestants in Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C., and to those in certain areas of Virginia and Pennsylvania. Applicants should submit the completed application, a $25 application fee, their resume, and a cassette tape or CD of no more than three of their own renditions of jazz favorites including one song previously recorded by Billie Holiday, for the women, and Cab Calloway, for the men, by Friday, March 28. Also new this year, Artscape will host its inaugural Chick Webb Jazz Combo Competition. Spring Soccer: There is a meeting of all those interested in forming a Mid-Maryland Spring League on Wednesday, March 19, 7:30 p.m. at “Du” Burns Arena. Administrative cost will be approximately $150, and the forfeit bond from the MMSL can be used unless there are new players to register. Player registration from the fall as well as the player passes are good for this league. Referee fees will still be $65 per team per game. Audubon Kids: Audubon is running after-school programs this spring and needs volunteers to help out. Audubon will meet with second to fourth graders from local schools two hours weekly to discuss the ecology and conservation of the Chesapeake Bay.
