Eastpoint scouts help with Blackwater cleanup

Eastpoint Venture Crew 409 at Blackwater cleanup
Members of the of Venture Crew 409, based in Eastpoint, helped clean up the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Dorchester County, Eastern Shore. The Maryland Department of the Environment discovered an illegal dump on the edge of the protected wetland, and Venture Crew 409 spent a Saturday in community service helping to pick up what one official described as “over a century of trash.” Several trailer loads of bottles, cans, clothing, and other trash were hauled from the site. The crew then spent the rest of the trip learning gun safety and target practice. The crew, a program of the Boy Scouts, is chartered by St Peter Lutheran Church, located at 7834 Eastern Ave in Dundalk across from Eastpoint Mall. The crew meets on the first and third Mondays of every month.
