Forget about the robins, the vernal equinox and the Easter bonnets. People in Baltimore know that the real herald of spring is the first baited hook that gets dropped into the Patterson Park Boat Lake.
So this Saturday, it’s time to break out the poles and make tracks for the park as spring officially arrives with the first kids fishing rodeo of the year. All events start at 10 a.m.
The program is open to all those age 15 and under, and children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
In order to be eligible for the prizes offered at the rodeo, children must reel in all fish caught. (Prizes are awarded for first fish caught, largest fish caught, etc.)

All those who wish to participate are encouraged to bring their own rods and tackle, although a limited number of loaner rods will be available for use that day. No fishing license is required for this event.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. There is a $1 registration fee for all participants including adults. (In the event of inclement weather call, after 8 a.m. to find out if the event has been rescheduled. The number is 410-396-7078).
Note: As the summer progresses, catch and release Family Fishing Fun nights will be held every Thursday 6 p.m.-8 p.m. in May and June, at the Boat Lake. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is $1 per person. Bring your own fishing rod or borrow one (provided each Thursday). Bait will be provided. Info: 410-396-9392 or 410-396-6136.
