Cavemen, Ironmen and You

YOU ARE NOW A CAVEMAN…CREEPY.

A Neanderthal

A Neanderthal. Kind of looks like your Uncle Carl mixed with Wilford Brimley, doesn't it?

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a caveman?

Thanks to the Neanderthal genome project, you no longer have to worry (as long as you have European ancestors from around 30,000 years ago). That’s right, it seems like most Europeans share about 4% of their genome with Neanderthals, meaning that not only did old-school homo-sapiens mate with Neanderthals, both (i.e.: you) are probably the same species.

Here’s a quick summary to get you caught up:
“The discovery of interbreeding in the nuclear genome surprised the team members. Neandertals did coexist with modern humans in Europe from 30,000 to 45,000 years ago, and perhaps in the Middle East as early as 80,000 years ago.”

SCIENTISTS TALK TOUGH TO CLIMATE CHANGE RIVALS

Scientists have had enough harrassments and threats from politicians and other agenda-pushing, head-in-the-sand businessmen and released a “We’re not gonna take it,” statement to prove it. No word yet on whether D. Snyder has any involvement.

IRON MAN 2 TECH

Frightening-ness.

Iron Man 2 debuts at the movies this weekend and for a technology and graphics-oriented guy like me, it looks pretty promising.

I didn’t think much of all the crazy gadgets that Robert Downey Jr. totes around until I stumbled upon an article that provides an awe-inspiring look at the future of technology.

Apparently, most of the tech in the movie is actually grounded in reality. This was surprising at first, but when I think about things like the Large Hadron Collider (please tell me you’ve heard of this thing…please…), advanced optics, exoskeleton suits, and renewable energy research, I’d have to say that it all seems pretty plausable (in 10 years or so). Here’s the article.

Still think I’m full of it? See for yourself one of the robots that already exist. Try to avoid imagining these things building our houses for us in 30 years.

WEB NEWS

Just when you thought the internet couldn’t get any more complicated, it did. As it turns out, the first non-latin based web addresses have gone live.

That means that domains sporting languages that aren’t made up of the good-trusty alphabet we know and love, will still be able to sit on their own little server and provide research and fun to any country in their native language, surely leaving thousands of U.S. citizens shaking their fists at their computer while yelling, “Speak Amuricun!”

Also, developers are mad at Flash applications (you know, it plays videos and allows you to play games on the web) and voicing their objections to the Adobe software. Check it out here. I say, good for them, why run an app inside of an app? But for now, I’m not planning on giving up Flash development, its still an incredible tool for web designers.

UNTIL NEXT TIME

Well, its been real, but that’s our time. I hope you feel free to direct yourself to the comments section and leave a little something for me to think about…or to point out a misspelled word or broken link. Until next time.
