May The Best Cat Win: The Baltimore 500, a race to adopt out 500 homeless cats, is still on, extended through June 7. The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) is offering no-fee adoptions for cats and kittens. BARCS is at 301 Stockholm St., phone 410-396-4695, web BaltimoreAnimalShelter.org. Call for hours and days of operation. This week’s Baltimore 500 poster cat is Socks (left), a mellow six-year-old, declawed, neutered male cat whose  owner surrendered him because she could no longer afford to care for him. Adopting Socks, who is litter-trained and has all his shots, is free, but city residents must pay the $10 animal license fee.

Garden Tour: Butchers Hill holds its annual Garden Tour on Sunday, June 6, noon-5 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 day of tour. Tour begins at the White House, just inside the E. Lombard St. / S. Patterson Park Avenue entrance to Patterson Park. The Baltimore Museum of Industry will host an evening of Maryland wine and charcuterie on Thursday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the outdoor pavilion at the museum, 1415 Key Highway. Community Potluck: On Friday, June 4, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., Salem Lutheran Church, 1530 Battery Avenue, will host a potluck that is part of a national initiative, “A Month of Potlucks,” to help raise funds to end hunger. Bring a dish or drink (non-alcoholic) to share, come meet friends and neighbors, and help feed hungry people here and around the world. People of all faiths (or none) are welcome. Open studio tour:
Visit the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower Saturday, June 5, 1-5 p.m. for visits with artists and a tour of the studios.
