Concert series play on at Riverside Park, Museum of Industry

Getting out and enjoying the outdoors is what summer is all about, and what better way to enjoy a summer evening than by lounging on a blanket with a scrumptious picnic and listening to some good music? There is still plenty of the summer left to take advantage of some good outdoor concerts, and we in South Baltimore are lucky enough to have two great music series right in our very own backyards.

The Riverside Park concerts are back this summer, and you can still catch two of them. On August 2 listen to the cool jazz sounds of the Sandy Asirvatham Quartet; August 23 is the Natty Beaux playing high-energy rockabilly and jump blues. All shows start at 6 p.m. in the park gazebo. BYO blankets or lawn chairs and a picnic. Dogs on leashes are also welcome. The Friends of Riverside Park will sell 50/50 raffle tickets and bake sale items. It all goes to a good cause.
Don’t forget about the Blue Moon South Side Summer Concert series at the pavilion outside the Baltimore Museum of Industry, 1415 Key Highway. Because this venue has the added benefit of being held on the grounds of the BMI these shows are held rain or shine. The music just moves inside in case Mother Nature shows up.
On Wednesday, August 19 you can catch 3 Fifths at 6 p.m. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, but don’t bother lugging your picnic basket or cooler here, they won’t be allowed in. RUB will be there to sell their signature BBQ delicacies and the Wine Market will also be there if you get a hankering for some vino. Beer and soda will be available too.
Leashed dogs are welcome. Kids are welcome too, but the BMI cautions parents to sit away from the sea wall, as there is no barrier to prevent the little ones from taking a dip. Parking is free at the BMI, but the lot is small so get there early if you plan to drive.
