Neighborhood Watch: Southeast

Neighborhood Watch is a representative sampling, not a comprehensive listing, of crimes reported to the Southeastern District of the Baltimore Police Department. This week’s Neighborhood Watch was compiled by Mary Helen Sprecher.

Shooting

Mason Court, 200 block, August 28, 5:10 p.m. Officers were called to the 300 block of Mason Court and found a 34-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. He was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Hospital. According to reports, the shooting actually took place in the 200 block. Two suspects, described as black males, at least one of whom was wearing a white T-shirt, began a dispute with the man, then shot him. They were seen on a citywide camera fleeing the area. Robbery

N. Luzerne Avenue, 100 block, August 28, 12:30 a.m. A man told police that he and a homeless woman had made arrangements to have sex, and upon removing his pants, he saw the woman reaching into his pants pocket. He asked her what she was doing, and she said, “Nothing.” He then realized that she had removed $1,500 cash and put it into her backpack. He asked for the money back, but the woman said no. He then tried to take the money, but the woman bit him. Both the woman and the man then contacted police, who found the money, and the woman claimed not to know how it had gotten into her backpack. She was arrested.

Bank Street, 1500 block, August 22, 1:30 a.m. A woman told police that she had just left a friend’s house and had gotten into her car when her boyfriend approached her with his hand inside his shirt. The two began arguing over their relationship and the man pulled the woman out of her car, stating, “I’m going to blow your brains out.” He tried to get the woman to come with him but she refused, and the man began pushing her and then took her car keys and fled. A warrant was obtained for the man’s arrest.

E. Fayette Street, 3300 block, August 22, 2:30 p.m. A Hispanic man told police that several male suspects had just robbed him at an ATM. A witness told police that the suspects had run into a nearby house. Police knocked on the door of the house and a woman ordered her son to come out and talk to the police. He was identified as one of the suspects, as was another teen who was inside the house. Another 17-year-old suspect was also in the house, but fled before the police went inside. The woman said to her son, “I knew you guys were up to no good. You come running in through the back door and then pace back and forth downstairs.” Both suspects were taken away, and police will follow-up regarding the third.

Eastern Avenue, 2400 block, August 19, 7:49 p.m. A teenager told police that he was out walking when a second teenager came up to him wearing one boxing glove on his hand, and said, “Give me some money.” The teen gave him 35 cents and the second teen punched him in the face, then fled.

Aggravated Assault

S. Robinson Street, 1100 block, August 28, 2:28 a.m. A woman told police that she heard a woman crying in another vehicle and went to investigate. When she did so, a man got out of the car and confronted her, then hit her on the arm. He then told her he had the AIDS virus. He was arrested.

N. Kresson Street, unit block, August 28, 11:15 a.m. A man told police that he became involved in an argument with a fellow resident in a substance abuse program. The argument escalated and the other resident pulled a knife and said, “I’ll stab you right here.” The assailant then fled. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

Dundalk Avenue, 1100 block, August 27, 3 a.m. A man told police that he and his wife were out walking when a suspect stopped in a grey Durango and said, “Do you know what time it is?” The man said, “No,” and the woman then shot him with a B.B. gun and drove away.

E. Lombard Street, 3800 block, August 24, 3:30 p.m. A woman told police that she was out walking with her brother when a man passing by said, “What the f–k are you looking, you have a problem with me?” and began an argument. A woman who was in the company with the man who had spoken pulled out a can of pepper spray and sprayed the first woman on the arm with it. She was arrested.

Eastern Avenue, 6200 block, August 24, 11:35 p.m. A man told police that he was out walking when a gray Pontiac pulled up alongside him and a passenger shot him with a B.B. gun.

S. Broadway, 300 block, August 24, 10:57 p.m. Police found a man suffering from stab wounds. Witnesses told police they had heard the man arguing with a second man whom they knew only as “Mike,” and that “Mike” was telling the first man, “Leave my girlfriend alone,” at which point he pulled out a 6” knife and stabbed the first man in the chest. The victim was treated at an area hospital.

N. Haven Street, 100 block, August 23, 3:25 a.m. A man and his wife became involved in an argument because the man had been out. During the course of the argument, the woman struck her husband in the thigh with a bat, causing injury, then tried to stab him in the stomach with a kitchen knife. She was arrested.

S. Conkling Street, 400 block, August 22, 1:14 a.m. A woman told police that she was stabbed in the back inside a fraternal club. A witness was able to point out the suspect’s vehicle, and the suspect, a 19-year-old woman, was arrested.

Burglary

N. Kresson Street, unit block, August 28, 10:45 a.m. Someone climbed into a house through a second floor window and took a TV.

Fell Street, 1000 block, August 28, 9:30 a.m. Someone entered a home through a door and took $3,000 cash and some credit cards.

E. Fairmount Avenue, 2100 block, August 27, 7:10 a.m. Someone broke into a home through a front window and took electronic equipment. A window air conditioner unit had been pushed out of place in order to gain entry.

S. President Street, 200 block, August 25, 5:45 a.m. Someone cut a fence and entered a trailer, taking company equipment including phones, chargers and a camera. Other furnishings were damaged.

S. Patterson Park Avenue, 500 block, August 24, 6:20 p.m. Someone broke into a home through a front door and took $400 cash.

Carbore Way, 6200 block, August 24, 6 a.m. Someone broke into a home, took clothing, ate food and slept in the resident’s bed after moving several fans into the room.

E. Lombard Street, 4300 block, August 23, 10:50 p.m. Someone entered a home through an open door. Nothing was taken.

Larceny

S. Bouldin Street, 700 block, August 28, 7 a.m. A woman, 74, told police that her 13-year-old granddaughter showed up at her house and told her that she had run away from her group home in Waldorf and had no place to stay. The grandmother allowed her to stay, and the granddaughter stole $1,800 cash and a driver’s license, then locked her bedroom door, and crawled out the window.

E. Lombard Street, 2200 block, August 28, 12:15 p.m. A woman told police that two suspects had taken packages from the steps of a home that was not theirs. They were arrested and the property recovered. When asked why they took the packages, the two suspects said, “It was a mistake.”

S. President Street, 600 block, August 27, 9:20 p.m. A woman told police that she left her purse by the concession stand of a movie theater, and later recovered it but found that her wallet was missing.

Foster Avenue, 2800 block, August 26, 9:09 a.m. A 50-year-old man was arrested for trying to steal nine toothbrushes and a home pregnancy test from a drugstore.

Gough Street, 1700 block, August 25, 12:15 p.m. Someone stole the wheels from a bicycle that was chained to a pole.

Eastern Avenue, 3200 block, August 25, 12:45 p.m. A barbershop worker told police that a suspect, described as a black male with salt and pepper hair, had stolen an envelope of money.

Broening Highway, 2500 block, August 25, 7 p.m. Someone stole a 20’ shipping container on a trailer.

S. Dean Street, 800 block, August 24, 6:30 p.m. Someone cut the cable holding a mountain bike and rode away with it.

Bank Street, 1600 block, August 23, 1:40 a.m. A woman left her cell phone on a table in a nightclub and went to dance. When she returned, it was missing.

E. Baltimore Street, 2600 block, August 23, 10 a.m. Someone took two air conditioning units off the roof of a rec center.

S. Highland Avenue, unit block, August 23, 3 p.m. A woman, 68, told police that she had taken out her wallet to get a money order when a suspect, known to witnesses as “Angela,” had snatched the wallet and fled.

S. Conkling Street, 900 block, August 23, 9:30 p.m. A man, age 67, entered restaurant and ordered the Restaurant Week special ($35) and two beers ($11) and then claimed to have left his wallet at home. He offered to pay using PayPal through his phone, but the restaurant could not accept this form of payment and offered to hold his phone as collateral while he went home to get his wallet. he fled with his phone. He was stopped and offered a second chance to pay, but refused, and was arrested.

N. Curley Street, 600 block, August 20, 6 p.m. A woman was moving and hired two men off the street, and whom she did not know, to help her move. She later discovered that two handguns and ammunition had been stolen in the process. She told police that she waited eight days to call and report the theft because she was “busy.”

Larceny from Auto

Clyde Street, 3300 block, August 26, 7:45 a.m. Someone stole car diagnostic equipment and a radar detector from an unlocked car.

N. Conkling Street, 100 block, August 25, 10:20 a.m. Someone damaged the front and rear door of a truck and took the tag, as well as a computer and GPS and dental tools.

N. Caroline Street, unit block, August 23, 9:55 p.m. Someone entered a car through a rear door and took a duffle bag with a hospital badge, $20 cash, flip-flops and a sleep apnea machine.
