Southeast Neighborhood Watch: Aug. 25

Robbery

S. Washington Street, 600 block, August 21, 2:30 a.m. A woman told police that a suspect, described as a bald black male with a heavy build, had robbed her of her clutch purse, then fled.

S. Clinton Street, 300 block, August 21, 9:50 p.m. Police responded to the report of an attack and found two men who told them they had been attacked by a group of suspects, four men and two women, who took a cell phone and cash. Three suspects were arrested a short time later.

Gough Street, 1500 block, August 18, 11 p.m. A man told police that he was out walking when a group of suspects attacked him from behind and went through his pockets, robbing him of $75 cash.

Seaforth Street, 6300 block, August 17, 3:50 p.m. A technician told police that he had finished replacing a window seal on a truck when he was attacked by two suspects who took his keys and jumped into his Chevy van that contained his work tools. One of the suspects was described as wearing a black sleeveless undershirt and having a chinstrap beard, and the second was described as being in his 40s but having “an old face” with a mustache, carrying a white towel and a blue lunchbox.

N. Collington Avenue, unit block, August 17, 11 p.m. Three teenagers attacked a pizza deliveryman and robbed him of his wallet, cell phone, cash, keys and pizza delivery bag.

E. Pratt Street, 3800 block, August 17, 7 a.m. A man told police that two suspects had threatened him with a knife and robbed him of $320 cash.

S. Wolfe Street, 800 block, August 16, 2:20 a.m. A woman told police that she and a male companion had been approached by a suspect who put a gun to her stomach and said, “Give me your purse or I’ll shoot you.” The man grabbed the woman’s purse, patted down the man’s pockets and did not take anything. One of the suspects was described as having shoulder-length dreads.

Hudson Street, 4800 block, August 15, 6 a.m. A man told police that he was approached by two suspects who grabbed from behind, putting him in a chokehold and saying, “Give me the money now.” They robbed him of his wallet.

S. Conkling Street, 200 block, August 13, 8:40 p.m. A woman told police that she knocked on the door of a house looking for her friend. A man opened the door and let her inside, then closed the door and grabbed her, threatening her with a knife and saying, “Pay me my 60 bucks that you owe me, white bitch.” He then grabbed her purse and the woman fled and called police, who came and knocked on the door. The man came out and said, “I didn’t do nothing” and walked back inside but was arrested nonetheless. The woman’s purse, which was found in plain sight inside the house, was returned to her.

Aggravated Assault

S. Conkling Street, 300 block, August 22, 12:40 a.m. A woman told police that she had been called a “whore” and a “bitch” by a man who then threatened her with a knife, saying “No one was talking to you.” He then tried to stab her twice in the abdomen, then when police approached, threw the knife under a parked car. When he was arrested, he said, ‘Yeah, I did it. (She) called me a whore.” He smelled strongly of alcohol.

S. Conkling Street, 400 block, August 22, 1:14 a.m. A woman told police that several fights had begun while she and a friend were leaving a club. One woman stabbed her in the back. The assailant was arrested.

Steelton Avenue, 1200 block, August 21, 11 p.m. A woman told police that her girlfriend had smacked her across the face and then threatened to kill her with a pair of scissors if she left her. She was arrested.

E. Pratt Street, 3700 block, August 14, 5:30 a.m. A woman told police that she was approached by her ex-boyfriend and a woman she knew only as “Edith,” and that they hit her several times. A warrant was obtained for the ex’s arrest.

Mello Court, 700 block, August 20, 1 p.m. A woman told police that her ex-boyfriend had struck her and her one-year-old child with a broomstick. He was arrested.

Eastern Avenue, 3700 block, August 19, 1 a.m. A man told police that a second man had pulled him out of the garage where he was working and beat him with a metal pole for reasons he did not know. The previous day, the suspect had approached the same man and said “Let me show you something,” then bit him on his chin.

S. Regester Street, 200 block, August 16, 4:50 a.m. A woman told police that a suspect, described as a Hispanic man wearing a “Honduras” shirt with blue and white stripes, had walked up behind her and said, “Give me sexo” and grabbed her by the neck. He cut her with an unknown sharp object and she fell. She ran to safety and was taken to the hospital.

S. Newkirk Avenue, 300 block, August 15, 11:11 p.m. A husband and wife argued because the man had been drinking and was acting strange, and the woman asked him to leave. They began an argument about their dog, and the man choked the woman. He was arrested.

S. Broadway, 200 block, August 15, 4:47 p.m. A man told police that a suspect whom he knew only as “Jose” (with the street name of “Diablo”) had been involved in an argument and the man told him to stop the argument. Jose/Diablo threw a brick, which grazed the man. He then fled.

Mt. Pleasant Avenue, 3800 block, August 4, 8:30 a.m. A man told police that he had been assaulted by three suspects, who beat him with a beer bottle. The victim appeared to be highly intoxicated and kept changing his story, and could not remember where he had put his wallet.

Burglary

Eastern Avenue, 1900 block, August 22, 4:25 a.m. Someone entered a home through a second floor window and took a purse. The intruder had climbed a box spring on the side of the house in order to gain entrance.

N. Curley Street, 500 block, August 21, 4:30 p.m. Someone broke into a home and took a TV.

N. Port Street, 400 block, August 19, 5 p.m. Someone kicked in the front door of a house and ransacked the basement.

E. Fayette Street, 2400 block, August 18, 4:30 a.m. A suspect entered a home through a rear window and stole a waffle maker.

Orleans Street, 2600 block, August 17, 10:20 a.m. A man stopped police officers on patrol to tell them he had seen a man loading a stove onto a truck. The truck was stopped and the driver arrested.

Eastern Avenue, 1700 block, August 16, 8:02 a.m. Someone broke into a restaurant, but it was not immediately known if anything was taken.

N. Kenwood Avenue, 100 block, August 16, 11 a.m. A teenaged suspect whom an onlooker knew only as “Brian” broke a window of a house and entered, in the company of another teenaged suspect, and took a TV.

S. Broadway, 400 block, August 15, 9 a.m. Someone broke in the front window of a discount store and stole $55 worth of change.

McElderry Street, 2300 block, August 15, 9:30 a.m. Someone moved an air conditioner out of a window and entered a home, taking a computer.

Larceny

S. Broadway, 200 block, August 22, 9:10 a.m. A woman left her purse on a cafeteria table, and someone stole her wallet.

Eastern Avenue, 6300 block, August 21, 3:20 p.m. A woman was arrested for trying to steal eight door hinges from a home improvement store.

Eastern Avenue, 3700 block, August 19, 3:25 p.m. A dental assistant told police that a man and his friend had come for an appointment. The first man became upset because he was told that he would get an exam and x-ray, when he expected to have his teeth cleaned. He ripped his file from the assistant’s hands and was arrested for stealing patient info.

N. Lakewood Avenue, unit block, August 17, 4:30 p.m. A woman told police that a representative from “Walker Pest Control” had been in to spray her apartment, and that she had then noticed her prescription bottle of oxycodone was missing. She further recalled getting a phone call from a woman stating that she worked for Walker Pest Control and that the technician’s urine test had come back negative and that he would not need another one. Police were able to obtain the identity of the pest control technician and will follow up.

S. Highland Avenue, unit block, August 16, 8:06 p.m. Police responded to the report of a larceny and saw two suspects run by, one of whom was yelling “My money.” Both were detained. It transpired that the two had stolen the money from a senior citizen on his way to buy ice cream. The money was returned and the two suspects arrested.

Boston Street, 2300 block, August 16, 7:31 p.m. Two individuals were seen stealing Crown Royal whiskey, Grey Goose vodka and Hennessey cognac from a store. One suspect, a female, was wearing clam diggers and black crocs while the other, a male, was wearing flip flops and carrying a Macy’s shopping bag.

S. Central Avenue, 100 block, August 16, 7 a.m. Someone stole a Bobcat worth $32,000. (The same day, at the same time, a $15,000 excavator was reported missing from the 1500 block of E. Lombard Street).

Danville Avenue, 6400 block, August 15, 11;30 a.m. Someone stole a bird bath and ornamental statues, as well as flower pots.

E. Fayette Street, 3300 block, August 16, 9:40 a.m. A man stole a bottle of orange juice from a convenience store. When asked by police, he said, “Sir, I’m gonna be a man about this and tell you I didn’t pay for that.” He was arrested.
